Conflict Resolution Residencies

"Where ancient grudge break to new mutiny . . . ."

A special offering that unites art and social service: "to hold . . . the mirror up to nature."

Stage 1
Shakespeare 101 workshops are brought to individual English classes. Actor/teachers light the Shakespeare spark and introduce students to the fun of Shakespeare as well as to his great play, Romeo and Juliet.

Stage 2
Students attend a production of Romeo and Juliet.

Stage 3
Richmond Shakespeare teams with Richmond Peace Education Center (RPEC) to go back into the classroom and lead the students in an investigation of the story and themes of Romeo and Juliet in an effort to draw comparisons between the world of the play and the world of the students using exercises designed to help students avoid conflict.

In the 08-09 school year, workshops and performances were brought to 8th graders at Henderson and Thompson  Middle Schools. The added attraction was that Romeo and Juliet was performed by a cast of high school schoolers from all over the Richmond area.

Truly inspiring for adults and students alike!
